Signalling Virtue, Promoting Harm: Unhealthy commodity industries and COVID-19, authored by the NCD Alliance and the SPECTRUM Consortium, is a preliminary exposé and analysis of tactics and strategies adopted by the unhealthy commodity industries during the COVID-19 pandemic to date. The report outlines four main strategies - pandemic-tailored marketing campaigns and stunts, corporate social responsibility programmes, shaping policy environments, and fostering partnerships with governments, international agencies and NGOs, illustrated with dozens of examples shared from around the world.

World Health Statistics 2020: A visual summary

Report

The World Health Statistics 2020 summarizes recent trends in life expectancy and reports on progress towards the main health and health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and associated targets. It also assesses the current availability of those data, and describes how WHO is supporting countries to improve health information systems and global health security. The 2020 edition also includes four indicators (relating to poliomyelitis, hypertension and obesity in adults and school age children) from the Thirteenth General Programme of Work 2019−2023 (GPW13).

The report focuses on prevention and offers the most comprehensive overview of relevant research avaliable to date, ranging from descriptive etiology, cellular and molecular biology, toxicology and pathology through to behavioural and social sciences. Key chapters include discussions on the impact of inequities in cancer, vaccination and screening, genomic individual susceptibility to cancer and the finer identification of those at risk, which may allow 'precision cancer prevention'.

Global Framework for Capacity Building for Non-Communicable Disease Advocacy in Low and Middle-Income Countries

This document is a summary of two pilot NCD advocacy courses, one in Thailand and one in Colombia. A Global Advisory Group engaged a Local Organizing Committee in each country to ensure the courses would meet the needs of the local stakeholders. While both courses contained a set of key competencies and helped participants develop joint strategies for moving forward with consensus advocacy targets, the courses differed in content and participant background depending on the local context

When people think of tobacco, they often think of it as a public health problem, but it is a human rights problem as well. The marketing and sale of tobacco violate the right to health and life of people all around the world.

ASH has been working to convince both the tobacco control community and the human rights community that it is time to address tobacco through a human rights based approach. The resources found in this database are designed to help advocates achieve that goal. This hub is meant as a living resource and will be frequently updated with new information.
