Armenia STEPS Survey 2016: Tobacco Fact Sheet

This Tobacco Fact Sheet presents national data from the 2016 Armenia STEPS Survey on tobacco use and control indicators for adults aged 18–69. It provides insights into smoking prevalence, quit attempts, secondhand smoke exposure, and awareness of tobacco-related messaging and advertising. 

 

Key Highlights

  • Tobacco Use: 27.8% of adults currently use tobacco; 51.5% of men and 1.8% of women 
  • Cessation: 3 in 10 current smokers tried quitting in the past 12 months 
  • Health Advice: 3 in 10 smokers were advised to quit by a health provider 
  • Secondhand Smoke: 26.6% exposed at workplaces; 56.4% at home 
  • Media Exposure: 4 in 10 saw anti-smoking TV/radio messages; 28.3% thought about quitting due to warning labels 
  • Marketing: 16% noticed tobacco marketing in stores; 14% saw cigarette promotions 
  • Economics: Monthly spending on cigarettes averaged 15,460 AMD 
  • Start Age: Average age of smoking initiation was 18.1 years
