The Lancet Respiratory Medicine Series on the global epidemiology of chronic respiratory disease

The Lancet Respiratory Medicine has published a new Series titled Global Epidemiology of Chronic Respiratory Disease, providing an updated overview of the worldwide burden, risk factors and policy implications of major chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs), including asthma, COPD and interstitial lung disease.

The Series underscores that CRDs remain a leading but under-recognized cause of morbidity and mortality globally. It highlights the disproportionate impact on disadvantaged populations and identifies key drivers such as tobacco use, air pollution and occupational exposures. The accompanying Policy Review calls for stronger global action on tobacco control as a primary prevention measure to reduce the burden of lung disease.
