Launch of the joint WHO/UNICEF report: Clean air, healthy children

The World Health Organization and UNICEF will jointly launch the new report Clean air, healthy children: Summary of evidence and multisectoral interventions to tackle air pollution for a healthier, equitable future on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.

Air pollution remains the leading environmental health threat to children worldwide. It contributes to illness and impairs healthy development from the earliest days of life, with the greatest burden experienced by children in low- and middle-income countries. The new report presents the latest evidence on the health impacts of air pollution and outlines a cross-sectoral framework for action. It highlights seven major sources of air pollution affecting children’s health, including household energy use, transport, industrial activity, waste-burning, wildfires, dust storms, and exposure to tobacco smoke.

The launch event will present the key messages and data from the report, highlight country experiences and initiatives that protect children’s health, and discuss lessons learned and future priorities for clean air policies and programmes.

The event will take place on Thursday, 30 October 2025, at 1500 CET.
