Palliative Care Atlas of the Americas

The Atlas of Palliative Care in the Americas (2025) is a region-specific mapping and analysis report that assesses the state of palliative care across the Americas region. It uses indicators aligned with the World Health Organization’s public-health framework (policy, education/training, availability of medicines, service delivery) to show where countries are advancing—and where significant gaps remain.

Key points:

  • It highlights that while some countries have made important strides in integrating palliative care, many still lack comprehensive national policies, essential medicines (especially pain relief), workforce capacity and equitable access (especially in rural or underserved areas).
  • The Atlas serves both as a benchmarking tool (allowing comparison across countries) and as an advocacy instrument to catalyse further investment and policy attention in the region.
