Report

The Global Dialogue on Partnerships for Sustainable Financing of NCD Prevention and Control, co-organized by the Government of Denmark and the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism for the Prevention and Control of NCDs (GCM/NCD), assessed the progress made since the first High-level Meeting on NCDs in 2011 and stressed the need for international cooperation and partnerships to increase financing for NCDs. This report captures the major highlights of the Global Dialogue and offers specific actionable recommendations on financing NCD prevention and control. The numerous speeches and presentations from key speakers also shed light on how we can move forward from global commitments to local actions.

WHO GCM/NCD Working Group on the Alignment of International Cooperation with National NCD Plans (Working Group 3.2)

This final report is the outcome of the Working Group convened by the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (GCM/NCD) to consider the alignment of international cooperation with national NCD plans (Working Group 3.2, 2016–2017). The Working Group was formed under objective 3 (action 3.2) of the GCM/NCD work plan to provide a forum for identifying barriers to and sharing innovative solutions for the implementation of the WHO Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases 2013–2020.

WHO GCM/NCD Working Group on the Inclusion of NCDs in other Programmatic Areas (Working Group 3.1)

This final report is the outcome of the Working Group convened by the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (GCM/NCD) to recommend ways and means of encouraging Member States and non-State actors to promote the inclusion of the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases within responses to HIV/AIDS and programmes for sexual and reproductive health and maternal and child health; within responses to other communicable disease programmes, such as tuberculosis; and as part of wider efforts to strengthen and orient health systems to address the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases through people-centred primary health care and universal health coverage.

Country Capacity Survey Results Tool

The NCD Country Capacity Survey (CCS) is the main instrument used to monitor country progress on the NCD commitments. It provides information on the status of country NCD policies, guidelines and programs, and the health system capacity to response to NCDs. This interactive tool provides the results of the 2017 CCS, in a visual manner with charts, maps and tables, and features which allow the user to explore data for each topic, by country, subregion or region.

Prevalence of Obesity: A Public Health Problem Poorly Understood

Article

This review article discusses the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) in support of a total diet approach to achieving diet and health goals, especially as they relate to the obesity epidemic. However, some scientists and organizations have identified one food, food group, or nutrient as the cause of the obesity epidemic and recommend that simply reducing that food/food group/nutrient will solve the problem. This is simplistic and unlikely to be effective in long term management of the obesity problem.

Transitioning from the MDGs to the SDGs

Report

This publication includes analysis and lessons on each of the 16 countries and the one sub region that took part in the Reviews. The exercise, which brought together UN and World Bank Group staff, systematically reviewed the country situation, identified the bottlenecks to MDG attainment, and proposed potential solutions to be implemented to accelerate progress. Since many MDGs have been absorbed into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), many of the observations and solutions provided could prove useful to the implementation of the SDGs.
