Round 2 Grant Opportunity: Adressing Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

The @MATES4Kids (Maximising Access To Essential Supplies for Children) Movement and CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours) are proud to offer three AUD $1,000 grants to support community development efforts that will:

     1. Improve access to CAH (Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia) medicines
     2. Strengthen CAH Communities and/or
     3. Scale Newborn Screening (NBS) Programs

Why: CAH Communities in resource-poor settings experience inequitable and preventable morbidity and mortality. Improving access to essential medicines; strengthening CAH Communities by addressing the five pillars of CLAN; and early diagnosis through NBS have been demonstrated to effectively reduce the preventable mortality associated with CAH. These grants aim to support community informed actions to address local priorities and needs.

When: Grant applications will open on 22 March 2024 and close on 3 May 2024. Successful applicants will be announced at the @MATES4Kids side event at WHA77 (on 26 May 2024). Proposed initiatives must be completed by 31 May 2025.

Who: CAH Community Members, Health Professionals (including paediatricians, nurses and community health workers) and other participants of the @MATES4Kids Movement are eligible to apply. Applicants must be registered with the @MATES4Kids Community of Practice (CoP) on the World Health Organization’s Knowledge Action Portal. Collaborative approaches are recommended. People living with CAH must be involved in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of any projects. It is recommended representatives from national Paediatric Endocrinology or Paediatric societies are included as mentors or partners in project proposals.

Where: Projects must focus on priorities of CAH Communities in countries that are classified as Low Income, Lower-Middle Income or Upper Middle Income (as per the World Bank rankings). Projects based in High-Income Countries will not be considered. See Appendix for lists of eligible countries.

How: Applicants must complete the form overleaf and email to info@clanchildhealth.org by midnight AEST on 3 May 2024. Successful applicants will be notified on 26 May 2024, and announced to the broader @MATES4Kids Movement at the May 2024 @MATES4Kids side event. Each grant recipient will be invited to share updates on their projects throughout the year at @MATES4Kids CoP Meetings and other events as opportunities arise. Recipients will commit to sharing a final report on their project that will be posted on the @MATES4Kids CoP on the World Health Organization’s Knowledge Action Portal (WHO KAP).
